Back pain

I am a 22 year old male.  I'm a nurse.  I work two jobs and always in pain.  I've had a MRI of the thoracic and lumbar spine.  The lumbar test showed mild central canal stenosis, degenerative disc,  and foraminal narrowing of the L3-L4 and L4-L5 discs.

I have lower back pain, but my mid back(on my spine about 2 inches below my shoulder blade level) hurts worse(without medication a true 5-6 on the pain scale).  The vertebrae at that level is sore to touch.

The thoracic MRI showed no problems.

I have been told that it could be my mid back muscles compensating for my lower back problems.
I have also been told by a neuro surgeon that if it was muscles it wouldn't hurt for as long as it has(about a year now).

I'm going for a nuclear bone scan tomorrow to see if it can find any abnormalities.

Are there any conditions that could be causing my unexplained pain??

Also I take hydrocodone for my pain(4-5 of the 10/325's a day).  As a nurse I see addiction a lot.
If I am only taking my pills when I hurt BAD, will I get addicted since I only take them when i hurt?
Will I develop a dependence?
Or are the people who are addicted the ones who are taking the med for a "high" feeling or even if they aren't hurting?

Get a co[y of your MRI for t-spine.  I wonder if they indicate any fluid build up in the facet joints of the t-spine? or any humangioma in vertebraes.

I cant say what is causing your pain.  I hope you can get some answers on that.  However I would like to comment on the dependence of pain killers.  I have been prescribed percocet, hydros, somas to treat my pain.  I am waiting for surgery 02/22 and cant wait cause I am like you.  I dont want to become addicted and it is very easy to do.  I was taking 1 soma now I am taking 3.  So yea your body does build up a tolerance for the pain killers.  The percocet made me sick so I dont take it and the Hydros-----I was taking 1 now I am at 2.  So you see the pattern.  I have never been one to take pills.  I am even making myself wait till bedtime to take them.  I dont like masking a problem I like fixing it if possible.  So I feel what you are saying and I wish you luck.
