It sounds to me like you may have a bulging or herniated disc that could be hitting your sciatic nerve. I had the same problem that ended up leading to surgery. The thing is though it should have showed up on the mri. My neurosurgeon showed me the images and it was very noticeable. It may be a possibility it could be spinal stenosis which is narrowing of the spinal canal which can put pressure on the nerve. It can sometimes lead to bone spurs that can also cause pain.
How long has it been since you had your mri? Are you doing any type of stretching exercises that help? One that helps the discs stay in place is to lay flat on your stomach in the push up position. Push up with your hands while leaving your hips on the floor. Once in the upright position breathe out and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat about 10 or so of these as often as you can. Try this for awhile and see if it helps at all. If it does help it may very well be a bulging disc.
These are just ideas that I feel might be a problem due to my personal experience. If you are having pain, they has to be something going on. Have you tried getting a second opinion? If it has been over a year since your last mri, I would try and get another one. I wish you the best of luck as I know how much back pain can make life difficult! Let me know if that exercise helps at all and if you find anything else out. I'm still having issues even after a surgery so I'd like to get other people's advice also on techniques that may help.
thanks for the advice ill give that exercises a shot.I been thinking about going for a second opinion but the way my luck as been going the last couple of yrs its not going to make a difference.

After lifting a heavy object about 3 years ago, I developed low back pain. I have had MRI, PT, non-invasive surgery, and injections. NOTHING HELPS! For the past threes nights I have awoken to intense pain in my groin area to my knee on the inside of my left leg. My back pain had been concentrated to the right side. This pain is intense and the first night I law awake for 3 hours in tears because of the pain. For the past three days I have taken tramodol, advil, or tylenol. These meds will knock the sharp edge of the pain, but it never goes away completely. I have been to numerous doctors and no one knows how to be of help to eliviate my pain. It becomes very discouraging. I am going to a new internest next week and have high hopes that perhaps I can get some relief.
