My doctor told me to ...

do various stretches to prevent back pain. I've had random acute back pains, and nowadays, the pains are getting severe. If I am laying down, I can't get up. I can possibly roll out of my bed, but I get stuck on the floor, attempting to get back up on my feet, but naturally I can't. My doctor had told me that I probably pulled a muscle after lifting a heavy box of papers, and the stretches would help. He said those who go through more serious back accidents will just do stretches to heal the pain. But now it's been 3-4 months, and now I sleep with hot&cold patches on my back every night. It is hard to walk when my back hurts. But I walk normally during the day. There are symptoms when I bend down or pick something up then suddenly I freeze, because an acute pain comes from my back.
What do I do?
My parents had to buy hundreds of dollars just for a doctor to tell me to do some stretches. I don't want to go to the doctors again, unless it's severe.
Should I keep doing the stretches?
This is affecting me in my daily life.

it could be muscle spasms caused by a minor underlying problem. when the body is injured it sometimes stiffens the muscles in the area of the damage to protect it from further damage.
do you regularly have severe pain when moving after being in the same position for a long time(like after sleep)?
are you able to stretch the area of your body where the pain is? does this make it worse? is the pain sharp? dull? like an electric shock? does it feels hot or cold?
any further axplanation of the pain may be helpful in trying to figure this out.
as much info as you can think of might help.
good luck finding a solution. msg me if you need to.

Nick.

I don't know what kind of pain it is. The only information my doctor told me was that I probably pulled a muscle in my back. But to me, it seems as if it is my bones.
I am in a healthy percentile range for my BMI, and I recently turned vegetarian. Maybe I should work out more? I run for 20 minutes at the gym and dance; other than that, I might do couple reps of push-ups at home.
Thanks, Nick.

what kind of pain is it?
muscle pain? nerve pain, bone pain?
more info might help.
as a general rule you should not only do the excercises that the dr has given you, but also try to be as fit and healthy as possible throughout your whole life. being fit can have a major impact on the way you and your body handles pain, accidents, illnessess and disease.
try to see a specialist physical therapist.
good luck.
