MRI Results

What does this mean in the MRI report ?

Significant findings include reversal of the normal cervical spinal curvature presumably secondary to spasm. There is degenerative disc disease with posterior protrusion of the disc and flattening of the anterior thecal sac at the C3-4, C4-5, C5-6 and C6-7 levels. In addition, there is slight flattening of the cervical spinal cord at C4-5 and C5-6 levels secondary to the central disc protrusion. The disc protrusion is generally greater on the right than the left. No significant neural foraminal stenosis or spinal stenosis is otherwise seen on the study.

The vertebral bodies, facets, pedicles and posterior elements are otherwise intact and generally unremarkable. The paraspinal soft tissues are normal.

Multilevel degenerative disc disease, which is most significant at the C4-5 and C5-6 levels where a mild degree of spinal cord flattening is identified.

Reversal of the cervical spinal lordosis secondary to paracervical musculature spasticity.

A lot huh, what does it mean??

Evewisewoman,

I am not having much success with my PA, so have asked to see a Spine Specialist.  I am waiting for that referral, I really appreciate you responding.

Hi claudine817,

Most MRI's are done in a hospital. I think the results of the MRI are also
sent to your family doctor. If this is the case, I would suggest making an
appointment with your family doctor and having your doctor explain to
you what the results of the MRI mean. Good luck. Eve

Talking about the change in your neck (cervical)  spine curvature, that shows you are having pain.

All your problems are related to disc issues rather than bony issues, but unfortunately your spinal cord is flattened, so I think that means the discs are doing that and that will cause pain.
