Neurology

I had 2 back surgeries in 2004 & 2006 for herniated dics at L4, L5, & S1.  Ever since my first back surgery I've had terrible pain in my buttocks area and it radiates down my leg.  Recently I have developed pain in my big toe that I can start feeling coming back my foot.  Can anyone tell me what this is possibly do to?

Yep - it sounds like you've re-ruptured.  Typically the pain radiating done to your big toe means the nucleus (inner part of the disc) from L5-S1 is extruding and pressing on the nerves.  I'm not a doctor but have have been through your situation several times already, have had 2 surgeries for L5-S1 and unfortunately multiple other back procedures, physical therapy, several rounds of injections, mri's, x-rays, consults, etc. Obviously that still does not make me an expert so I would highly recommend for your health and peace of mind before you leg muscles begin to atrophy like mine did, to make an appt with your health care provider, explain your level of and location of pain, and request an mri referral specifically for your lower lumbar region. Be proactive about taking care of your back because it's the only one you have.  The lower back is especially tough because it not only helps brace everything below the waist but supports all of your weight from the waist up, so you need to make sure you take care of it now rather than later.  Good luck.

Not to say this is your problem but my pain from back, mostly buttocks and down leg to toes.  My problem was alot of extruded disc material and they took the material out.  I had microlumbar discectomy last month.  Maybe you need a new MRI done.
