Odd pain in buttock-related to nerves?

My L5 and S1 discs bulge centrally and to the left. This problem has been slowly worsening for the past 5 years or so. I have had radiating pain down my buttocks and legs and in my feet before but now I have a strange sensation I haven't felt. I was leaning over a counter at work looking at a computer screen when suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my left buttock, then it felt sore and has continued to feel sore for a few days. It is worse when I am sitting and I also feel some light numbness and perhaps a burning feeling. Also the muscle "jumps", like a rapid muscle clench. Are these symptoms likely related to my back problems? I am slightly concerned since my nerve pain usually manifests itself differently. Thank you for reading my post and for any comments you may have.

My experience with the same problem is that it is related to the disc bulge. Walking and an exercise called clam shells has helped tremendously. Do this on both your right and left side - lie on your side with your back straight and your knees moderatly bent, slowly raise the knee of the leg on top upward keeping your ankles together then lower the knee back down till your knees touch together, repeat 30 times then switch sides. This sounds easy however if you are out of shape it will cause muscular pain that will go away if you continue to do the exercise over a length of time say a couple of weeks depending upon your fitness level.
