help

after an MRI scan i have been told that=discs are dehydrated but not reduced in height, mild marginal and endplate irregularities +facet joint hypertrophy are noted the latter is significant from L4 to S1.
at L2/3 small left foraminal disc protrusion/annular tear touching left extraforaminal L2 nerve root.
at L4/5 circumferentialdisc bulge, the severe facet joint hypertrophy & right synovial cyst cause dural sac deformity and right lateral recess stenosis with impingement on right traversing L5 nerve root, there is right foraminal stenosis without definate nerve root entrapment
at L5/S1 there is hypoplasia of the L5 laminea and the facet joints with slight anterolisthesis, deformity of foramina is seen with no nerve roor entrapment, a left lateral osteophyte mildly displaces the left extraforaminal L5 root
conus normal,
have been told i need surgery, will it cure my pain or will it be made worse, can you help.
thank you azey

If you have the option for surgery and think that the benefits outweigh the risks, than I say go for it. Only you know the answer. I wish that I could have surgery but my doctors wont approve it because of my age (27) even though I feel like i'll end up in a wheel chair in a few years without it. I guess they want to try everything before resorting to surgery. It's been 2 years and I've just about run out of options! Good luck

With the exception of preventing permanent damage, what should determine your need for surgery is the amount of pain you're in, your ability to function and your quality of life in general. Not what’s on an MRI report.

If you are in severe pain and unable to function what so ever, then you should probably have surgery, if not, you need to explore other more conservation treatments first. It's hard to say whether or not surgery will help, that's why it should always be the last option.

Take Care
