The only situation worse than a child watching a parent die, is when it is the other way around.  My heart goes out to you K.
I assume you are not alone at such an awful time, is mom or an Aunt there?  Is your Dad in the hospital?  Why is he dying?  Is he at home?
As Lisa said, pain is caused by a number of reasons.  But in this situation he should not be allowed to have horrible pain.  Whether in the hospital or at home, there is "Hospice Care" available to him and his family.  Tell who ever is the main medical care taker for your Dad that you want Hospice Care. That would be a doctor, nurse or social worker you ask.  Hospice workers help those dying and their families through the process, all the way through. They are highly skilled at making sure the patient is as pain free as possible and that "you" the family knows exactly what is happening and why.  This is in the home and the hospital, even nursing homes.  I don't know your whole situation, and as far as money goes, Hospice is at no cost to you. They are true miracle workers at such a time when you need it most.  If you would like to learn more, you can find information on the web. Just ask, and do it soon, for your Dad should not have to suffer.  Hospice is everywhere.
  Stay Strong.

Hi,
sorry to here about your dad, i know you must be confused. How old is your dad? He may have back pain for a number of reasons. I have had back pain since i was 17 years of age. it may be nothing to do with his age or illness. Try to keep your chin up ,do you have someone you can ask questions to. Do you know and understand your dads condition. I have a friend who is also dying its so hard but keep up a brave face for your dad!
