physio making pain worse

Hello,

About 2 years ago I suffered a sacral injury when I fell off my bike on to a stump.  Went to the ER and X-rays showed nothing.  For about 3 weeks I had severe back pain, I couldn't run or jump because it felt like someone was poking my spine when I did and I had an urge to deficate even when I didn't have to. (never actually lost bowel continance)

The urge syptoms went away after 3 weeks but the pain was intermittant for about 6-9 months.  I was better for about 10 months.

In april I strained myself at the gym and I felt my back pain come back.  I was experiancing testicular pain and  I had terrible spasms and began to take anti inflamatories.  Lasted about 1 month,
In june same thing happened after Golf and it lasted 3 weeks.  Had MRI done and it showed nothing substantial.

About 2 weeks ago it started again and I resolved to go to physio.  Started with stretches and she did some stretchs and mild traction at my appointments.  When I first started my pain seemed better, the stretches really loosened up the muscles and it felt better.  Now however it feels like my sacrum is `catching`or slipping and I get pain afterwards.   The pain is worse now than when I first got it but it is in my back and not radiating to the groin or leg like it was.

My physio says this is a good sign and I need to continue.  She added some core strengthening exercies today.

Does this make sense.  Can things get worse before they get better or should I seek a second opinion

thanks

hi.  i'll have to agree with zak.  it sounds like si joint instability & it's probably causing swelling and tightness in the hip flexor region.  i'm just guessing here but if you over stretched your si joint during the fall then maybe you made the joint a little unstable.  it's kind of like twisting your ankle. it kind of comes back to normal, but you get a twinge now and again.  i would not advise going to a chiro.  that i know. someone else that i know had this issue and they went to an osteopath & had some success.  take care. kimpton

I am going for acupuncture and have an appointment on thursday.

I stopped the exercises but and the pain is gone but I have these weird "fullness" or heavy sensations in my pelvis.  My doctor says it may be inflammation irritating a nerve.

Hi,Sorry to know that.

At moment, your main problem is ligment injuries including lower back and SI area, Reducing inflammation is wise treatment for your condition. So,perhaps intensive acupuncture could do better job. Good luck!
