100mg. OF CELEXA!!!!!

I realize the starting dose for Celexa is 20mg. and that the maximum dosage is 60mg. My son Todd was in prison for 5 yrs. Was given 100mg. of Celexa the 5 yrs. he was in prison. Asked the nurse at the counseling center he was going to, would the overdose by 40mg. for 5 yrs., cause my son to have any problems. The nurse told me that this extra 40mg. would not make a difference or hurt Todd. That it would just cancel itself out.

I hope someone can prove me wrong on this. BUT, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT GIVING SOMEONE AN EXTRA 40mg. OF A MIND ALTERING DRUG WOULD NOT HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

I am just trying to figure so much out. Those that recognize me on here, know that in the last 7 mths., Todd has been hospitalized 4 times. And he is currently in a state mental hospital. Been on so many meds these months. Ten that I know of all together. And I still swear, something else far worse is going on with Todd, then being bipolar alone.

I once asked my doctor to up my Celexa to 60mg. And he refused to up it. Now, I know it was for my own good. I am just trying to find answers. Before any of these shrinks and counselors figure it out, my son is going to be dead. Thank you

Who prescribes his medication?  I agree with the above post, normally once max. is  exceeded there is little benefits.  I have taken Celexa in combination with max dosage of Effexor and a antiphyscotic medication. I now there is such a thing as SSRI syndorome from too much Sertonion uptake but if your son has been on this dosage for five years, I dont know that I would worry to much, however, you really need to speak with a professional.

Well I don't know about any long term effects but I know once you go past the highest recommended daily dose it stops having any more beneficial effects and instead the side effects just get worse.
