BiPolar and Hysteractamy

I have been diagnosed with BiPolar for the last 3 years. I am doing well on the medication and I am doing alot of research all the time on the subject. I am 48 years of age and having many gynocological problems. If I am facing a Hysteractamy how will that affect my disorder? I'm concerned about hormone replacement and yet I know that I don't need to be off balance anymore than I have been. There is not much information out there.

Hi,I am also Bipolar and 48 years old, I had a Hysterectomy (uterus, ovaries, tubes and cervix) I hadn't started the menopause at that time and was prescribed 2mg Climival (HRT) that was 2 years ago this week and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I was diagnosed Bipolar 3 months after the operation but my late diagnosis was due to me refusing to see a Psychiatrist.
One of my pre op worries was about the effect it would have on my libido but I haven't noticed any difference.
I have been told that I will have to come off the HRT when I am 50, bit worried about that.
I would say that my moods were pretty stable after the op.

If they take out the ovaries, is what affects the harmone balance. I kept my ovaries, so didn' t have harmone inbalance until started into menopause. Then my testostrone level went to high and I started losing my hair. I am on harmone treatment now and it has helped that problem. I also have a thyroid problem so that contributes to my problems. I am on medication for that. Talk to your dr. about your medical history.  Take a list of all meds with you and what they are for. I keep one updated on my computer and print it out to take with me when I need it. I include surgeries & why, approx dates, date of birth, address and list of drs with why I see them, such as Dr Smith Primary Care w/phone #, along with some family history, insurance co., name issued in. I found it saves me a lot of writting in the drs. office. Best Wishes, RJ

You need to speak with your doctor about any possible drug interactions.  We are not qualified here on this forum to make a recommendation -- everyone reacts differently to the meds.

I do know that many people with bp disorder are also being treated for other medical conditions and we take a mix of medications for those other conditions.  It all depends upon the particular meds your different doctors are prescribing for you.  Make sure every one of your doctors knows your complete medical history and all the meds you are currently taking, to avoid any drug interactions.
