Can Meds. For Bipolar Stop Working

I was diagnosed with Bipolar in 2005. Started taking Lithium changed after about 7 months due to weight gain to Lamictal. I have been on Lamictal ever since. However, I have felt that the depression, change in mood, higher anxiety, and confusion has started slowly but is here. Can my meds. stop working or helping me after a period of time?
Would appreciate any insight thanks-

Thank you!!! My Dr. seems to think because I have been on them for so long that they should still be working. I will just have to explain the difference I am feeling. Thanks again-

Yes, they can stop being as effective.  In that case, you need to go see your psychiatrist and have the dosage changed/meds added.
