Is this just a label

I dont know.  Ive just been thinking about how alot of people consider themselves Bipolar, or Manic, or Schizo, or compulsive, or borderline, or etc........ I dont know.  I mean, like years ago, I thought I was Bipolar, or schizo, or compulsive, or bisexual, or any of these tasty sounding words, but I just dont believe in labels anymore.  I mean why should we always have to label ourselves like this. Like people who are genius's like Bill Gates.  Do they go around saying "IM A GENIUS, IM A GENIUS" No.  Its just, I dont get it.  Maybe someone can answer me.  (Geez I think I might have hit a soft spot on this one) sorry if i do.

It can be considered a label but it is more than that.  In a world filled with people who suffer from bipolar with a small percentage of people being what you may calll "normal" we would have diganoses and labels for them.  I have been through the mental struggle of wondering this question before and I understand.  I wondered if it was true, or if it was a conspiracy.  I wondered if it was something that the institutions just wanted me to believe.  I concluded that although the diganosis is true it is in the eye of the beholder whatever we choose to see it as.
I might see it as a series of cycles that is noticable enough to be diagnosed.  A series of cycles that will end some day.  It is like the world as we know it is a jump rope being swung around at a constant speed.  Sometimes it was too slow for me to be interested and sometimes it was too fast for me to keep up.  Either way, I am here, and stuck in the frequency that has been accepted as common and as long as I am here I either force myself to get into the rythm, or jump in and out as I have always done.  That is a choice for all of us to decide.  Accept this, or ignore it.  EIther way it is going to be a life-long battle.  Once the cycle starts, at whatever age it started for you or anyone else with this, it has become a wave carrying you through life.  It is a gift and a curse to fly above the world in mania just to be either brought, pulled, or forced back down into depression.
Love all my bipolar people.

We can all have "episodes" in our life, this does not mean we can't recover on our own and need a lifetime label. No one is "normal" in this life, most people will fall apart at some point in their lives, that's life! You just have to soldier on

I'll take the name!  I am happy to have that "label" because it explains so much.  I have always felt different and known something was wrong since I was young.  So now I am enjoying stability and happily taking my medications every day!!!

I just want to add that I do not like it when people say "I am bipolar today or I am manic crazy like bipolars" etc.  One of the ladies in my co-dependency group learned all about bipolar disorder from me and now she comes in saying "I feel bipolar tonight", or leaves saying "I am manic with all the errands I have to run".  Ofcourse, she is not bipolar and it irritates me but I have not said anything.  Come to think of it, I am meeting the facilitator, whom is a dear friend of mine, for lunch tomorrow.  I think I will ask her what to do!

Confront her, tell her to stop or you will slap her silly.

I sorta get what you mean but I am bi polar . I dont go around saying it or using it as a crutch I was relieved to find out there was a name for what I was going through. an I wasnt alone. Its not so much about being labeled as it is about finding out what is the matter and doing something about it.

What do you mean by "a lot"? I've never met anyone who was Bipolar or even claimed to be but me and my ex wife.

so what would have the doctors do? If you fit with the symptoms, they just are giving the disease a name and bi polar is the name of our disease and with that name there is treatment for it with therapy and meds,  healthy eating and exercise the doctors can only diagnose by what you tell them.I know there are doctors out there that arent so good but there are doctors out there that are good. so would you rahter be untreated bi polar with the mania and the depression or would you rather have a name for your disease and get the treatment that is needed to beat bi polar. It is beatable

If you want to be labeled just go to the doctor and they will give you one.  That is what they do best
