I take a low dose of lithium (600mg) and am doing okay on it. Because it is such a low dose I don't have to get my lithium levels drawn like you do on a higher dose. I have noticed the shakiness. It bothers me at times. My psych says it could be the geodon but I think it's the lithium. I'm weaning off other things like the geodon and lamictal. She wants me to get down to only zoloft and lithium. If my dose goes up any higher I will have to get my lithium levels drawn to make sure they're in the therapeutic range.
All in all I've done okay with it. No mania, no super depression. Like hempem said though I have noticed my sense of humor going just a tad.
Hi cHiNa, I took Lithium for many years. 1,500 mgs. I felt it made me feel pretty "flat" and my brother told me my wickedly sharp sense of humor was gone. It did not help my depression. It made me retain about 5 pounds of water weight since it is a salt.
It made me feel toxic, though my bloodwork was fine. I do think it healed some of my neural pathways and memory after a psychotic breakdown. I still went manic on it, so I switched to Lamictal. I know a guy who takes lithium only and is great. So great he thinks he doesn't need it anymore, about every 10 yrs. He goes back on it though. Our brains are so different.
