Risperdal?? Is it a good med?

I have read horror stories all over the net about Risperdal.  I asked my pdoc to give a low dose so I can get sleep.  My biggest mixed state symptom is insomnia which equals mania.  Yuck!  So, I am doing awsome on Wellbutrin and Lithium and have not gone manic, but I am not sleeping at all!  So, I thought adding a low dose of Risperdal is a good move?  I was prescribed 1mg but after reading the horrible stories about the side effects such as lactation, weight gain and zombie head I split my tablets in half.  Not perfect halves but close enough.  I read more people had less side effects on .5mg.  So opinions please??  Nothing puts me to sleep except Tamazepam, which is habit forming and Seroquel makes me comotose on just 25mg so this seemed like an option.  I am looking forward to the deep sleep I will have tonight, but I do not want to feel like **** during the day.  I have a job interview Monday and I really want it.  Anyone have luck on a low dose of Risperdal w/o yucky side effects?  I need a reliable sleep aid!  Thanks :0)

Yes, I was taking it twice a day.  My pdoc told me today I can take it all at once in the morning.  It is only 150mg so I should tolerate it fine now that I have been on it for a few weeks.  I hope it helps.  Well, I will pop the risperdal and see what happens!

Wellbutrin at night made me unable to sleep.  Don't know when you take it, but a lot of my ad's had to be taken in the morning b/c they made me kind of hyper.

Venora, Thank you for your prayers!!  That is so sweet.  I am hoping for the job too, and I have a good gut feeling! OTC does nothing for me unfortunatly.

Crzychick, benadryl interacts with my wellbutrin :(  It does work ok, but makes me mega groggy all the next day.  Lamictal gives me bad migraine headaches!

So anyone else, I would love to see how risperdal works for you if anyone else takes it!  thanks!

I am difficult, I know :(  But I have tried so much stuff to sleep over the years and so sick of having insomnia.  I think it was my first BP symptom!

Good old OTC benadryl works to help you sleep.  It doesn't effect your BP meds.

Instead of going to the Risperdal maybe Lamictal as a 2nd Mood Stabilizer to get a hold of the manic?

Yes both.  Melatonin stopped working for me and Ambien gives me really bad side effects!

Have you ever thought of Ambien or Melatonin. Melatonin is a herbal medication that can help with sleep. I personally not tried Respirdal, but I just wanted to give you some more options. Good Luck
