Took Zyprexa last night, horrid reaction

I bit the bullet and decided to start my Zyprexa last night, OMG I wish I hadn't.  I'm only on a very low start dose of 2.5mg but I had the following side effects:  Tingling of mouth and tongue, dry tongue but watering mouth, runny nose and a feeling as though my throat was closing, weakness of legs and weird breathing - breathing was really slow.  This morning my tongue is still tingly and my throat is swollen.

This was so scarey and my pdoc had told me that after a couple of weeks on 2.5mg I would be increased to 5mg.  I don't think I will be taking them again.  It is so frustrating, I am going to speak to pdoc about Geodon which I've seen a few of you write about, what worries me is that I am slowly running out of options regarding meds.

Great advice from Jen21287 about consulting your doctor immediately about your side effects. Today, there are a multitude of medications that can stabilize a person with bipolar disorder or another mental disorder. I've never tried Zyprexa, but there are still many options available.  You may need to take a combination of medications in order to feel "normal".

Thanks Jen, I think it was an allergic reaction too so I am def not taking any more!  I have tried seroquel but it made me really angry (weird),i was that bad I would have had a fight with myself if there was nobody else around lol!

If I were you I would call the doctor asap to tell them your reaction. From your description, it sounds like an allergic reaction. If that is the case, then it could be dangerous to continue taking the medication. The trouble breathing and the feeling as if your throat is closing lead me to believe this. Talk to your doctor about these symptoms to be sure. I have never taken Geodon, but I am on Seroquel. It has helped me, but I know it is not for everyone.

Good luck
