The answer to the question is Yes.
Some doctors don't prescribe anti-depressants because of the type of BP the person has been diagnosed with as anti - d's can cause switching in some people. Switching is going from low mood to manic or hypermanic quickly and this can be quite detrimental.
Check with the doc as to why, but as LeftCoastChick said, Lamictal does have anti - D qualities and is a good one to be on.
Lamictal is a mood stabilizer with anti-depressant qualities - some even say it works better then other classes of anti-depressants - Zyprexa and Lamictal are both common treatments for bipolar. If the BP is hard to treat, there may be other meds added on, but she's on a good combination. Ask your pharmacist as well.
