Might be worth getting your doctor to check your hormone levels and any vitamin deficiancies.  I had a bad manic period last year and it basically exhausted my adrenal glands.  Also I now have very low melatonin (your body's natural sleep agent) and have to take a supplement to help build the dosage back up.  Also I have very low cortisol levels which helps you get up in the morning so I have to take a supplement for that as well because I was basically starting the day drinking lots of coffee which only made things worse.  I also found I had a Vitamin D and zinc deficiancy also.  Basically I'm completely burned out.

I am learning to get the real help I need, you need to be honest with your doc, they cant fix you if they only know half the problem. I am a great one to give this advise because I havent told my doc everything yet but I am slowly learning to trust him and each time I open up a little more I think he is able to treat me properly. But as I said before sleep is one of the most important things for someone with bipolar so get some help in addressing this issue.good luck

ya I agree and Im already on klodipin but they dont help with sleep I have a high Torrence for benzos iv been taking 3 mg to 4 zanex mg for 2  years and I get .5 klodipins not exactly gonna help lol. and yes Iv self medicated those but its kept me half sane during my depressed and mixed and manic episodes since I cycle so quicly. now Im down to maybe once two times a week  as to where I could cycle a few times a day so its a miricale to me the drugs theyve given me. It does help me to relax but I still self med cause its not nearly anof for what iv worked myself up to in the 4 years of taking them. I wonder if I should tell my doctor this or if shed cut me off of em what u all think. It help to keep me from blowing so much money cause I start cycling two day without them

Well after what you did during the manic phase I would say it would be a good idea to get a sleep aid at least so you don't trigger a manic episode from sleep deprivation.

Yep, Klonopin (Clanezopam generic name) in 0.5 mg or 1mg tablets based on your needs should help you with the mild hallucinations and falling asleep. Once, I couldn't sleep for an entire 2 weeks. at the end of that exhausting period my specliast prescribed Klonopin. It's great for relaxing your muscles and allowing deep sleep (no REM unfortunately) for 8 hours.

I feel great though. I feel Im finally on the right dosage and meds. I have a weird schedule though cause I work two jobs so im haveing a real hard time sleeping when I need to evan of im tired I feel wired and wide awake. I dont need to be manic again cause Iv done blew all my money and cant go through that again I almost lost my truck cause of it. For the first time in a long time I feel normal and truly at peace and happy. Dont know how long it will last but Im so happy about it after the hell Iv been through I think I deserve a break from it :) ps If i wouldnt have blown that money I wouldnt be workin a second job so I need to stay stable to keep my life in order. my pdoc says stress can trigger a mixed or manic episode in me so I have to keep up on the stress leval. I had two breakdowns at work two weeks ago so they uped my dosage. And I finally feel good.

Definitely call! My pdoc was going to prescribe them if my mood stabilizers didn't reduce my mania.

You probably need an adjustment on those as well if you're manic... it helped my sleep after a few days just to come down off the manic craziness.

I think a couple of my family members, one with schizoaffective disorder and the other with bipolar disorder, take sleeping pills to help themselves fall asleep.

Sleep is one of the most important things and yes I take sleeping pills to help this, you should contact your doctor. Not sleeping is a symptom and a trigger for an episode.
