pcos

I have taken lithium for over 20 years and now have a goiter and my thyroid antibodies are high and some hypothyroid symptoms are starting up.   Also my creatinine levels are just recently breaking out of the normal range.  So I believe it's time for a change.  It seems a lot of the drugs carry quite a serious risk for a white blood cell disorder.  I also read in studies that up to (depending on the study) 50 % of women on depakote get PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).  I have for many years of my life fought with terrible periods and painful ovulation, so I am afraid of doing anything that would open that door any wider.  Anyone have any words of advice?

THanks very much.

Lithium messed up my thyroid after only 3 yrs.  I switched to Lamictal and haven't had any problems so that might be an option?  Thyroid when back to normal and no blood work ness. afterwards.

Thank you very much for your response.  I feel like the bipolar is worse because of the thyroid, not sure.  I do feel more depressive, and that's usually never me.  Thanks for the tip on the synthroid.  When you evened out on it, was it helpful to your bipolar at all?

I had a goiter myself in 2006 that had to come out. Have they put you on synthroid yet?Lithium is dangerous and so is depakote as they destroy the thryoid and other organs.I got off them both and I take celexa and zyprexa and they work wonderfully for me .Been on em 7 years. Let me know how the thyroid tests come out. and come over to the thyroid forum. there are some really wonderful folks there to help you through this . How are you feeling with your bi polar? My thyroid aggravated my bi polar in the worst way. then when they started me on the med I went very manic so be sure you have them start you out slowly with your dosage.
