hi Malak
i don't think trileptal has serious side effects, because it belongs to the category of weak effectiveness like gabapentin. also since it's the cousin of tegretol it's taken for a number of other diseases not just psych.. so i assume i wouldn't worry about liver problems. all meds affect the liver. rather it's the combination of many meds that u are on which is strange, you are on 3 ms, usually they give 2, but nobody here can give a different opinion than a pdoc.
one point of concern though and this is important and i said it before, medicine is not a science. for example in literature some find hemingway the best novelist, some find him awful. i like swirzerland as the most beautiful country in my view some say north scotland is more natural yet i didn't feel so. the redwood empire in california is also very beautiful and the scent i still remember it, etc...you won't find agreeing on one thing. same thing with you. if you consult another pdoc sure he will advise another combo. this is why once something works all agree that you should stick to it because it's seldom that something is effective 100%.
it can cause your muscles to weaken if you over take it
also I think long term use may affect you liver
actually I have been taking trileptol since I was 11 and it has worked very well for me
Trileptal is clinically similar to Tegretol but because of the way it was updated its safer and doesn't require bloodwork. For some people its a good mood stabilizer. It depends. My experience wasn't favorable but I know for some people I know it was and it would work as an adjunct to Lamictal. The side effect profile is reasonably similar to Tegretol and its effectiveness about the same. You could look it up more on the websites we have linked up or the medication website itself. Some people I know have found it very helpful on rapid cycling but each person is different.
