want to change to lamictal because of weight gain

My doctor told me he would not put me on lamictal because i have bipolar 1 and it doesn't help bipolar 1. I am on depokote now and have gain 65 lbs in a year. And guess what borderline dietbetic now. Is that great or what? Should I go to a different doctor ? He , himself  told me to. But I hate changing Doctors.

What kind of Dr are you seeing?  A GP or a Psych?  Only a psych can give a true BP dx and will have a knowledge of meds to treat BP.

Change Drs.  i am type II and taking 300 once a day.  It is a great med.  My dr. just put me on 300mcg because I became manic over the weekend and then very depress the next day.

Personally I would change docs. I have been on Lamictal 150 twice a day for the last year and I also have bipolar I. It seems to control me very well. I also took Depakote and did not like it at all.

You need a dr who will listen to you and help you to try new things and find out what works for you.

Good Luck and God Bless
