I found at first the meds made me sleepy, as well the illness can as well. If you gets a lot of hypo/mania they are probably trying to address that and unfortunately that 's a side effect. Albeit not good for long term, but safer then a manic phase.I would also let your GP know, it could also be a medical issue like low thyroid levels. Best check all angles. I just had my thyroid checked again and my androgen levels. But my blood sugars are a little high. sighs. So do check in with your GP.
Pretty much all anti depressants have sedation as a side effect, its one of the most common along with weight gain.
The best idea is read the information on the drug you are on first, its all online now, and then speak to your doctor, you may need titration of the dose to achieve a result or a change in AD drugs.
There are definite side effects from medicines that make one sleepy all the time. Discuss this with your doctor and do some research on your own as well.
My son is on Zoloft, Depakote, and Zyprexa and he's constantly sleepy. We're trying to spread out his doses so that they don't affect him so heavily all at once. Check with your doctor and see if certain meds you are taking can be split up, taking 2 or 3 smaller doses throughout the day instead of one big dose.
