My doc has me on Lamictal, along with Lexapro. Certain antidepressants can cause mania to increase, but others such as Lexapro can control the depression as well as help with the anxiety, insomnia and mood swings. Check with your doc about this.
Good luck to you!
Namaste,
Wellbutrin is an SSRI usually used to treat depression. Both Lamictal and Topomax are mood stablizers, usually used in the treatment of bipolar disorder and finally, Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, usually used to treat anxiety and panic attacks.
After six years of being diagnoised with bipolar I disorder, SAD, GAD, panic attacks and PTSD, I realized that it was a long and tedious process to find the right combination of medications to stabilize my conditions.
Even then, changes in your medications may be required on occasion to keep your condition under control.
I know it's difficult to be patient, especially when you feel things are hopeless, but unfortunately, that's the way it is.
If your psychiatrist feels he/she needs to add an anti-psychotic to your "cocktail", there must be a reason.
The best I can recommend is that you have an honest conversation with your psychiatrist concerning your symptoms and the need for an anti-psychotic being added to your current medications.
You also didn't indicate how long you have been on any of these medications. Yes, there are side effects with all medications and different people may have different ones or none at all, but side effects usually dissipate after taking the medication for a certain period of time.
