I was just a little older than you when I had mine tied after my second child. I think I was 24.
It may be hard to find a doctor who will do it, but have you asked your own OB/GYN if he/she will? Often, if you've had a long medical relationship with your OB, they know you and may do it.
There are no more complications for young women than older women.
You must be very, very sure that you never want any more children, though...and that's the hard thing. If you are only 22, some of your life situations may change and you may later regret it.
Good luck. I knew I never wanted any more children and never regretted my decision. Oh, I got that "baby-longing" from time to time...but to raise a child again? No way.
Hope it all turns out well for you.
Hi Tracy, I actually can't provide too much insight into this except to say that a few years ago my cousin was in the same situation. She had 3 children and I think right about your age, and also wanted her tubes tied. She could not find a doctor that would agree to do it. I think it was mostly an ethical thing b/c they thought she was too young to make that kind of permanent decision, although I have also heard that the procedure has more complications for women under 30. They do have birth control, like Norplant, that is effective for up to 5 years though, so maybe that is something you could look into as well. '
Congrats on the baby!
