Amoxicillin and Birth Control

Hi, I am on birth control and have been for two years now. I recently took amoxicillin for a strep throat for a few days and have been using a condom, as I always do. It's been less than a week since I took the amoxicillin and tonight the condom broke. Should I take plan B? Thank you.

You are a very responsible young lady. As you know antibiotics interfere with cell replication and cause birth defects. In the case of amoxillin the drug has a very short half-life in the bloodstream.  Sixty-one plus minutes to be exact. Do the math. Thus, after seven days there should be an insignificant level of the drug in your bloodstream. You can never be one hundred percent sure of anything, but my guess is there will be no problem with the fetus, should you become pregnant.
