Nausea and birth control........

Hi, my daughter was put on birth control to regulate her periods and for her acne, which was really bad. She was 17 at the time.  She was put on the regular pill that everyone starts off with I believe, ortho something or other.  Worked great on regulating her periods AND her acne.

The nausea started shortly thereafter and the vomiting....................She stayed on them for a few months to see if it would dissipate but it didn't and she can't afford to lose any weight (she's VERY slender)  She was then put on the LOW DOSE version of that pill.................same thing.............nausea and throwing up.  THEN we tried the mini pill...............no nausea BUT, it doesn't really help w/ her acne which is the most important to her.

Is there ANY other oral pill she could try?  She's so upset and doesn't understand why she keeps getting sick from this pill.  Should she try anti nausea pills for a bit to see if her body will get used to the pill again?  I've heard the patch could make it worse but not sure.  Her acne is BAD and while she was on the pill (except for the mini pill) it was a lot better.  We're stumped here and need some advice.  thank you!

Wow, that's great! I've heard about those, didn't think of it. Glad to hear you found a solution.

We have a solution!  lol  I got her those "seabands" you put on your wrists for nausea and THEY WORKED!  We were stunned.  She put them on and about 10 min later her nausea is gone!  She takes the pill at night,  unfortunately, I think she's among the 5% of women who get sick from it.  But, I'm hoping once her body gets used to the pill (in 1 - 3 months) she won't be nauseated anymore. Until then, these bands are working a miracle here!   lol

When was she taking it? In the morning? Because most doctors will tell you to take it at night before going to sleep to avoid nausea. But it's usually only a problem for the first few weeks until you get used to it. I have read that orthi tri cyclen is one of the best for acne problems and ongoing nausea is a pretty rare side effect. If she tries to take it at night and still has problems then I'm not sure what to tell you. The mini pill has no effect on acne so her doctor was kinda barking up the wrong tree with that idea. But since she didn't have nausea with it, then maybe the estrogen is the cause of her nausea. If that's the case then she wouldn't be able to take any of the combo pills because they all have estrogen. But the mini pill doesn't help with acne so your back at square one.
