Pains throughout the month?

Hello,
I am 17 years old and have been menstruating for about 5 years. Within the past year or so I have been dealing with very severe menstrual cramps that have left me crying in pain on the couch for atleast 24 hours (causing me to miss a day of work and or school). I know the day before it is coming, as I suffer from severe back pain and msot often cannot sleep the night before. While it is generally one horrible day that I cannot bear standing, the pain still lingers thereafter. It seems as though these contraction pains constantly worsen, and so finally, my mother agreed to allow a doctor's visit. I was scheduled for an ultra sound to be sure that it was not endometriosis, and the results were perfectly normal. However, the pain has really become almost a daily struggle for me, and it is quite difficult as my mother seems not to be concerned at all. Her words are generally, "you'll live". Last month, the left side of my vagina, internally was very achy weeks before my period and lasted atleast a week or so. This month, I feel a pinching pain while walking or an certain posistions. It is even uncomfortable to cross my legs. It is hard enough knowing my period will be here in a week or so, and I will yet again face that horrible 24 hours; but now I am literally experiencing pain almost 3 out of the 4 weeks of the month. I will be getting birth control soon, and hope to feel some relief. Although, I look forward to that, I still fear that this will be a burden for years to come. I am still a virgin which rules out any STD. A nurse friend, of my mother's, suggested that perhaps I may be feeling ovulation, but this pain has been on the left side only. Any idea as to whether I should be concerned, or whether it is normal? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you,
Monika

I am 17 and used to experience pains exactly like this! I could hardly handle them. My doctor actually did reccomend birth control to manage the pain. I still have the pains but they are much less. But if bc is not an option I reccomend a heating pad, ibuprofen and water!! Best of luck :)

You too?!? I'm 16 years old and I have these same pains! It's especially near my period. It hurts so bad I just want to curl into a ball and cry (though if I DO curl into a ball, it makes it hurt worse). The first time it happened was not subtle at all. It came like a freaking ninja, man. I lifted my arms into the air and got ready for one of those biiiig amazing stretches to do when you first get up after sitting for a while, and BAM. Felt like someone stuck a knife in my area. I cried and cried, but no one believed me.

So after a couple days, I convinced my grandmother to take me to a doctor. She examined me and told me everything appeared to be normal. But she said it my be inflammation from my menstrual. So she gave me an anti-inflammatory medicine.

Which did not help.

So, long story short, I'm just as clueless and in pain as you, rest assured.  I've searched so many times for what could be the matter, and I still haven't found anything really helpful. Currently I am typing with my legs squeezed together and a grimace on my face. Yup, it's here.

Though, I do have to say this pain helps me track my schedule... Blessing in disguise? Hahaha!

But anyway, I hope we find out what this is!!!!

God bless you,
Heather

I would like to correct myself... not the right side, but the left side is where there are continuous pains.

Thank you for your reassuring advice! I have from time to time noticed tiny pieces of flesh during my menstruation, but I guess I didn't think that it would be related to the pains. Unfortunately, I have not yet begun the BC. It is being shipped in the mail, and I am left to deal with hopefully my last dreadful 24 hours. My lower abdomen and back are already pounding and I expect a couple days yet. It's pathetic that I actually fear the first day.

I have actually never been to a gyn, so the the ultra sound is all I had to go on (and aside from uneven ovaries, it was perfectly fine). I guess my doctor didn't think it was of concern to be further checked out. Did you feel the cyst in one specific area, more so at different times of the month? I myself have had a strange and uncomfortable pain in only the right side at various times during the month.

Thank you for the home remedy. I currently heat up a water bottle, but due to its inability to form to my body, it is not terribly helpful.

I truly appreciate your help!

You're not alone. I also had very similar symptoms with my periods. My case included me losing chunks of flesh, which really scared me. I was started on bc pills and it has helped immensely. Hopefully, it has done the same for you.

Just for the sake of being cautious though,  you should definitely ask your gyn if it's possible that you are having trouble passing cists. I recently discovered that was one of my problems. The cist would form in my ovary then get stuck causing extreme pain. They just provided me with some medicine and it passed through in two days.

As for at-home remedies, try filling a clean tube sock with dry rice, tie the end and microwave it for 1 minute. Place this on your back and/or stomach. it really helps with relaxing and dulling the pain. :)

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment this. I am not really sure how the birth control will impact the cramps, though my doctor informed me that most women who suffered severe menstrual cramps during their period have reported some relief while on birth control. She recommended I give it a try! My biggest concern is why I have pain down there so often throughout the month but I'm excited to give BC a shot.

I think that you are fine. I would like to say that sometimes birth control is given to regulate cycles, I have never heard of it helping out with menstrual cramps.
