Pregnant before Mirena removal?

I had Mirena for 3 years before having it removed 12/29/11. I was tired of all the hormonal side effects and my husband is going to get his "procedure" in 2 weeks.  Anyway, we had sex the night before removal and I did not know until a few hours after Mirena was removed that having sex within a week of removal was risky for pregnancy.  I immediately went to the pharmacy to get a Plan B pill.  So, I had sex, roughly 10 hours later had Mirena removed, and about 6 hours after that, took Plan B.  What are my chances of being pregnant.  About 4 days after removal I started having "pregnancy symptoms" (heavy sore breasts, anxiety, headaches off and on).  Is this probably hormone related to coming off of Mirena and taking Plan B?  When can I test for pregnancy since I have no idea about my cycle.  I never had a period the entire 3 years.

Here is my story.  I had sex with my hubby on a Sunday night and Monday felt the mirena on my cervix.  had it removed on Wednesday; and while on mirena (got it placed 12/2012) still had my period.  The following weekend I started bleeding pretty significantly like I was on my period, so I cant say that it was spotting, but then after 2-3 days of bleeding it suddenly stopped, which is weird because it usually gradually stops.

Never once was told that I should not have sex a week before removal, because if I had I would have waited to get it removed...what are the chances of me being pregnant in this situation...

Thanks for your reply!  The side effects were the same reason I had it removed! I was so done with the acne and weight gain.  That, and my husband and I are planning an adults only vacation this summer and I wanted to get my body back to "normal." Not to mention he is having his vascetomy in a WEEK!!!  Our whole plan was to use condoms until he was in the clear. I wish I would have known about the "no sex the week before Mirena removal" rule.  If I would have read about it on the internet, I'm sure I wouldn't even be thinking about this!  I'll keep you posted.  It will be 2 weeks on Wednesday.  I tested today and negative...plan on testing again Wed.

typically if there is no period then there is no ovulation...when you have your period that is when the eggs are "washed out" of your uterus... there could still be a small chance tho.... the hormones in mirena are intended to stop ovulation and block the fallopian tubes... i had it for 5 years and hated the homonal side effects as well every month i felt like i was pregnant.... i had sex prior to removal also but was not really concerned as i was not having my periods...

i think you are pretty safe but like said above if you miss your period take a test or you could take one a couple days before but you just dont know when to expect it so you can take one and get accurate results 14 days after the sexual encounter

Thanks!  I still have no idea when I ovulated or if I did since I never had any periods.  Once yesterday when I went to the bathroom I had a lot of pink mucousy discharge and some brown spotting later, but nothing since then.  It could either be my impending period or implantation spotting (never had this with my other 3 pregnancies).  it will be 2 weeks since intercourse on Wednesday (2 more days). I took a pregnancy test today and definitely negative. :)

I've been taking my basal body temps for a week, and they have always remained low (97.5 or lower), which for me is typically pre-ovulation temps.  Still waiting and trying not to go crazy.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Since you had sex before removal of Mirena and then had post coital pills, so chances of pregnancy are less. However if you miss your periods, I suggest you to test for pregnancy by a highly sensitive pregnancy test 10 days post ovulation with a sensitive ( 20 - 25 mIU ) pregnancy test. Also then I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
