Pregnant or Birth Control???

I've been on Birth Control for two years but I quit taking the pill on December 11th.  It's now been 5 1/2 weeks (40 days) and I haven't yet had a period.  Also, my nipples are very sore and hard all the time (but the breasts themselves aren't sore) and one night I had a heavy dark brown discharge after intercourse.  Are these symptoms that occur after quitting birth control or could I be pregnant?  I'm tired all the time and one day I had a metallic taste in my mouth, which I hear is a sign of pregnancy, but four days ago I took a test and it came back negative.  I'm going to take another pregnancy test on Sunday when I'll have been two weeks late, but I honestly don't have any other signs or symptoms of pregnancy - no nausea or tender breasts or anything.  Is it simply all a hormonal imbalance from quitting the pill?

Yeah, my breasts were always real tender while I was on the pill, but since getting off they haven't been tender at all (just my nipples are suddenly very sore, which hasn't happened since I first started puberty.)  As for that brown discharge, I don't think it was my period.  It wasn't there before intercourse (as there wasn't anything on my underwear) but then after intercourse there was a massive amount, so much so that I had to wipe several times to get cleaned up (and it was a pure brown color, not red at all and quite liquidy, not thick or like mucus.)  Plus, after I got cleaned up the discharge was completely gone, didn't have anything for the rest of the night and it never reappeared in the days and weeks that followed.  I'm wondering if it was old blood from a past period maybe?  It freaked my husband out at the time lol.  I didn't think anything of it until I didn't get my period and my nipples started to hurt.

Well a pregnancy is definitely a possibility so I would continue to test for that. As far as your symptoms they sound consistent with BC I know you said you stopped taking it but you were on it for quite some time so your system may need some time to get back to normal. My breast and nipples were so tender the whole time I was on BC, the brown discharge after intercourse could have been your period coming back. I remember it took me forever to get regulated once I got off and I definitely remember the brown spotting from time to time. Most importantly you need to figure out whether or not you are pregnant bc there are things you need to be doing if you are prenatal vits, diet, exercise, etc Best of Luck BB

usually after coming off the pill, it can take a while to regulate a new cycle which will can also cause discharge changes etc. symptoms of your period arriving, ovulation and pregnancy are all pretty similar....if experiencing any at all. i would go to your doctor and see what they say. they might think it is just the pill because it is so recent after coming off it and if they suspect you may be pregnant then they might do a blood test :) good luck!
