Should I get the implanon rather than being on the pill?

I have been on and off the contraceptive pill for a couple of years now. I like it as a method of birth control, period regulation and the option to skip periods if necessary, however I feel that i get very depressed and angry when I am on it, hence why I have stopped taking it several times (before forgetting how badly it affects me, starting to take it again and soon regretting it) . My doctor recommended that I get the rod instead, as she said it doesnt contain the hormone that the pill contains which makes me moody. However I have heard bad things about the rod, such as it causing depression also, and women having their period for weeks at a time, so I am hesitant. Any advice?
