delaying period attempt

I was traveling and needed to postpone my period. I did it by starting a new pill pack right before the placebo week of the previous pack was supposed to start. The pills I use are monophasic. I tried to continue taking the pill at the same time while traveling but because of the time difference the taking time shifted a bit. Also at some point while traveling I skipped one pill, so I took two the next day. I didn't get my period while I was on the trip but since I returned I got my period (I am now only at the end of the second week of the first pack). At first I thought it was just light spotting but it got heavier and I am also having cramps.

So now I am not sure what to do. Should I just stop taking the pills right now, wait until I get my first real period and then restart or should I finish the pack and the stop for a while? I am not worried about pregnancy since I am using additional birth control methods just in case, I just don't want to have a period that lasts 3 weeks.

Have you considered Mirena, an IUD? It is a great option if you don't plan on getting pregnant for 3-5 years. It usually stops menstruation, and doesn't have to be something you remember to do. Of course, to prevent STDs you should use a condom as well.
