how well do condoms really protect

my doc told me not to take the pill for awhile so i can lose some wight so i was wondering how well they protect from pregnancy?

If they are used correctly then they are about 99% effective. But remember if the condom is not placed on right, it can slip off or even break. Good luck. I personaly don't like condoms after 1 got stuck inside me over a year ago. : /
