Definitely try taking it right before bed.  I was taking it around 5 before, but I eventually developed nausea and some other odd symptoms.  Ever since I started taking it at 10, I've had no problems.

i would suggest going back to the doctor and switching pills. or! you can try taking them before bed instead. (for prenatal vitamins they can make some people nauseous and they suggest taking them at night) your hormones are changing, so expect changes. just wait until you come off the pill. wow is that a hormonal time! but the benefits are great and depending on your scenario can be well worth it. remember, the pill doesn't keep std's away, use condoms unless you are in a very committed relationship.
you should read the instructions in your package for what it will do to your period. every pill is different and has different side effects. you can usually google your brand and it will tell you how it works. but usually the pill does a few things, slows down your hormones which reduces cervial mucous and thus creates a harsh environment for sperm to live in. and stops the release of an egg so you dont ovulate. which can cause shorter, lighter periods because there is no egg to sluff and no scratching of the uterine wall. but you should really look it up according to your brand of pill.
best of luck and i hope you are feeling not so nauseous soon.
