Hi,
A surgery for fibroadenoma is done if the lumps are symptomatic and causing pressure effects or pain etc and are too large. Otherwise, conservative management with regular follow ups is advisable as these usually regress post menopause.
If you have been advised surgery, then you need to discuss with your surgeon the procedure details, the approximate size of the lump that would be removed.
The surgery - a lumpectomy in most cases, is a safe surgery. But there can be some side effects like with any procedure - though the incidence of side effects is very low.
The possible side effects need to be discussed with your surgeon in detail.
The surgeon usually takes care to give an incision along the skin folds so that there is no scar or minimal scarring if at all. You would be given post surgery pain relief medication, and a list of do's and dont's which would speed up the healing process.
Do let us know how you are doing and what does your doctor tell you.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Hi,
Yes, you would be able to go to work almost from the next day, from what you describe about the lump.
You would undergo an excisional biopsy - which is usually done under local anesthesia .
You should talk to your doctor about post surgery pain relief medications. h/ she would also give you a list of do's and dont's.
Hope this helps.
Do keep us posted about your progress.
Good luck.
I have a very small lump, the radiologist believes it is a fibroadenoma but that I should have it removed to be sure. It is very very small. Should I be able to be active right away after sugery? It is right next to my areola.
