Breast Biopsy/Breast Lumps

Asian Lady - 43 years old and never give birth. 3 lumps removed on Jan'08 and again in Feb'09.Strong family history of breast cancer-maternal grandmother and grandmother's sister died of breast cancer. My mother had herself removed benign fibroadenoma in Year 2006.

Recent mammotome excisional  biopsy:-

DIAGONSIS

A. Right breast lump -10 o'clock – Fibrocystic change with columnar cell alteration.
Fibrocystic change featuring ductual dilation, fibroadenomatoid hyperplasia, columnar alteration with focal hyperplastic changes and mild cytological atypia, stromal fibrosis and chronic inflammation . Focal intraluminal microcalcification is noted.

B.Left breast lump 3 o'clock - Fibroadenoma with adjacent fibrocystic change.

A circumscribed benign fibroepithelial lesion composed of breast ducts and tubules dispersed hapzardly in a fibromyxoid stroma containing plump stromal cells and a few  chronic inflammatory cells. There is no stromal overgrowth, increase mitosis or cellular atypia. Features are consistent with fibroadenoma. Adjacent breast parenchyma shows features of fibrocystic change, ductal dilation, mild adenosis, focal apocrine change, stromal fibrosis and chronic inflammation.

C. Left breast lump -4 o'clock - Fibroadenoma with adjacent fibrocystic change.
A benign fibroepithelial neoplasm composed of compressed breast ducts and tubules dispered in fibromyxoid stroma.. The lesion is well circumscribed and multilobulated . There is no stromal overgrowth, increase mitosis or cellular atypia. Adjacent breast parenchyma shows fibrocystic change featuring mild ductal dilation, stromal fibrosis, mild chronic inflammation and mild adenosis.

A, B & C - There is no evidence of insitu or invasive malignancy.

Based on the above, my chance of getting breast cancer in the near future is pretty high right?

Please advise and thanks in advance.

Anxious Lady

Hi Doctor, thanks for your advice.

Due to I'm falling at high risk category of breast cancer, my doctor have schedule me another close up Mammogram and Ultrasound on 17/08/09 (previous Mammogram done on 31/10/08, U/S done on 31/10/08 and 12/01/09 ). Is this safe since Mammogram under my age group should only take once in a year?

So what should I do to prevent cancer coming to me so soon? So should I remove my two breast to avoid this problem? Do any diet help me to avoid having breast lumps recur so soon? Now I really have phobia on breast cancer and can not relax myself in peace.

Dear Lilian12,  A fibroadenoma is a benign (non-cancerous) growth and is the most common benign tumor of the breast. The cause of fibroadenoma is not known.  Fibroadenoma may be a long-term risk factor for breast cancer depending on certain features such as complexity of the tumor.  Risk factors are based on large groups of individuals with similar characteristics, it is difficult to precisely define individual risk.  You may want to consider having a second opinion with a breast specialist who can discuss with you your risk and follow up.  These specialists are usually associated with large academic centers.
