Dear tlmccan: Montgomery's glands are usually on the areola - but they can be anywhere on the areola - not necessarily right next to the nipple. Anything can technically become infected and we don't always know how. Infections can occur from irritation, ingrown hairs and a variety of other causes. Without evaluation, it is impossible for us to speculate on whether this "bump" is an infected montgomery's gland or what it might be. If it does not improve with the warmth and bactrim, you should let your doctor know because additional evaluation may be needed.
This is not a pimple, it is a huge cyst like thing that the doctor called infected montgomery follicle. it hurts very bad, told me to put warmth on it and gave me bactrim for it, if it does not go away he mentioned surgery. what causes this to get infected?
