Faint line on nipple, nipple retraction?

Right so i am a 24 year old male who worries a lot. I went to the doctor because i found very small lump under my areola, that lump turned out to be a 5ml mass that shows no malignancy attributes. The doctor suggested that i keep reviewing it in case it grows, so he gave me an appointment three days from now, but yesterday i noticed that there is a very faint line breaking my nipple in half when its not erect. So right now i am panicking that its nipple inversion. Would submit a picture but dont know how! Thanks!

Sometimes we have to do that .... it seems these days everything is such a rush and so little time is spent with each patient one wonders if they are even heard at times. It's a shame but I suppose we have to say it's just the sign of the times and there is little we can do about it ..... except to "push" or keep complaining until someone hears us; even if a result comes just because "they" are tired of hearing us complain :)  You know the squeaky wheel always gets the grease.   Take care and I'll be waiting to hear from you when we get some results from your biopsy.   Happy and Safe 4th !!

Thanks for the update ..... no matter the size of the lump, the tissues of the breast in that area are quite delicate and it wouldn't take much of a "pull" from beneath the skin surface to have this effect. Nerves are also involved and they are very sensitive and respond to any abnormality. It's the "taller than wider" lesions that are more indicative of a malignancy so your results are a plus in your favor. If you continue to be concerned I would still advise a visit to a Breast Specialist in the future, unless you are seeing this type of Physician at the present time.   Take care .....

Hi! Thanks for the reply! Sooo, i basically pushed my doctor to do a core biopsy because i find the nipple inversion to be quite weird. He agreed, and my biopsy is next Tuesday. Hopefully i am not too late that in case its not benign its still Stage 1.

Thank you for all the replies you have given, you really helped!

I'm not 100% sure about a retracted nipple coming and going but I do know that some individuals have this occur without a serious cause and it if life long. I don't at the moment recall hearing about this happening at various times.. Nipple retraction occurs due to some abnormality pulling the tissue inward from below; thus the need to have it checked out initially. Regards ...

Thank you for your reply, i apologize for not checking about the reply, completely forgot. Well, i went to the doctor yesterday, and he checked it again, and the findings were that it seems to him that it got smaller, its 5mm, so hes not so sure. The margins are still ill-defined. Honestly the findings are not that scary, but i can't comprehend how a 5mm lumps can cause nipple inversion.
Oh and its wider than taller!

Breast cancer is uncommon in males, but it does occur. I'm a guy and had a discharge from one of my nipples when I was about 25 year old. The doctor sent me to a surgeon and I was told that the discharge could indicate a precancerous condition, so he removed my breast as a precaution and I'm glad I had it off because then I didn't have to worry.

Guys can have breast cancer. When I was 22 years old I noticed that if I pressed my right nipple between my fingers drops of clear fluid would appear on the tip. A surgeon said this could be a precancerous condition and he removed my right breast as a precaution. It took some time for me to get used to having only one nipple.

Even doctors don't seem to realize that guys can have breast cancer too. I had a problem something like yours when I was in my early twenties. The doctor told me that even though it wasn't malignant now it could might become malignant at some future time. What I had was a clear discharge from my right nipple. I followed my doctor's advice and had my right breast removed as a safety precaution. Because the male breast is so close to the chest wall breast cancer in a guy can get into the system sooner than it does in a woman. That's why my doctor thought is so important for me to have the breast, nipple included, of course, taken off. Hope this helps.

Hi there! He said that with something like this, i would never be able to get enough tissue for a conclusive biopsy. You can say that i a very confused. Hopefully everything is fine. Thanks you!

I'm not sure what to think ..... as a rule anything can be biopsied. My only explanation at the moment is that perhaps the lump was an enlarged Montgomery's gland. These tiny glands which are barely visible in males surround the areola and are there for lubrication of the area. This of course is necessary in females to assist in breast feeding and even though they aren't really necessary in males, they are still present. That would be something that wouldn't require a biopsy of course since they appear normally in both sexes. If you are terribly uncomfortable with the information you received from the Dr I suppose you could seek another opinion but I think I would just let it be for the time being unless something else develops. Whatever you do, no squeezing, poking or pinching as this would just irritate the area. Many mistake these lumps for pimples.  Take care now,  Regards .....

So basically, i went today to the doctor for a biopsy, and he was surprised with the findings. The lump is now well defined, alot smaller, and disappearing into the areola. He said that he cannot perform a biopsy on that and this is categorized as benign! Well defined echogenicity area. Nothing other than that is noted! what do you think? Thanks!

Thank you again for your reply! I honestly had to push so hard to get a biopsy because no doctor is taking it seriously. Regarding its size, I have been told that it's a miracle I found it in the first place, no doctor was able to find it without my guidance! I am have a white dot on my skin where the lump is under, hoping that's a good sign!

Holding good thoughts for you next week and will be waiting to hear the results. I would think that if your worst fears are true, the size is a positive and by the way it is very uncommon to be "too late" these days. Take care..

A line such as you describe doesn't seem to indicate a retracted nipple although I cannot "see" exactly what you mean. Nipple retraction is the nipple being hardly visible; almost as though it were turned inside out.  If you have another appointment in only 3 days I wouldn't worry until you see the Dr. at that time. If you still have concerns you might consider seeing a Breast Specialist for additional testing.  Regards .....

Thank you for your reply! I figured that would be the best option, but just got a bit curious. Do you know by any chance know if nipple retraction is constant throughout the day? Like does occasional nipple retraction exist? Thanks !!
