Excisional Biopsy

I had a stereotactic core biopsy in March 2007 because of microcalcifications and the results were benign.  I had a follow-up mammogram in September and once again I had microcalcifications and this time they found Atypical cells.  The radiologist suggested that I go to a breast surgeon.  I have an appointment.  I do not have any lumps.  So how will the surgeon proceed?  Will this hurt?

I had a wire localization and surgery on my microcalcifications...They froze me for the wire localization and put me to sleep for the surgery...Nothing hurt anymore than a normal blood test.

The excisional biopsy IS a surgery. You have to go to the operating room. Your surgeon will cut out the entire, suspicious area.

But, they give you what's called a "conscious sedation." Physically, you're not totally out of it, but in YOUR reality, you are.

It doesn't hurt, at all.

You'll be fine.
