Hematoma after mammotome biopsy?

I had my biopsy thursday morning and finally worked up the nerve to shower and feel around the incision/biopsy site saturday night. It's still tender like a bad bruise, but the lump got really big. It was kidney bean sized and now it's large walnut sized. Could that be a hematoma, or would a hematoma hurt or throb? Or is there normally swelling associated with a biopsy like that? It was an ultrasound guided HUGE needle biopsy using Mammotome if that helps. Thanks for any info, it's hard to find many answeres on other sites.

Thanks. I was told to use an icepack the first day, which I did. I had no bleeding on the dressing over the steristrips and have no discoloration from bruising. I guess that's why I'm so surprised at the size of the lump now. If swelling is normal then this is okay. I'll try calling the doctor, but for now, thank you.

There is usually some swelling ... were you advised to use an ice pack or to wear a rather tight sports bra following the surgery ?? Those are often recommended to help with the swelling and the possible formation of an hematoma. you might ck. with your Surgeon as to what might help at this point. The tenderness will be present for some time as well as the bruising. Usually a hematoma is left to absorb on it's own. Regards.....
