Hi, how did you get through so quick?
I had a biopsy the same day of the mammo on Dec 7 and on Jan 7 I had my lumpectomy!
Get another doctor
Hi,
Intraductal carcinoma is the same as DCIS.
It is non-invasive ; that is it does not spread to the lymph nodes or to the adjacent skin or other areas.
You are right that DCIS associated with necrosis has a greater chance of recurrence than DCIS without necrosis.
The management usually involves lumpectomy with clear margins and regular follow ups to assess the progress.
It will not grow invasive in 5 weeks, but you still need to talk to your surgeon about an earlier date for surgery. Ask him/her about the delay, and also about the DCIS with necrosis that you have.
It is important that you remain calm, just for the reason that you need to think rationally right now, and that only happens when you are calm.
Do let us know about how you are doing.
Keep us posted.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Hi, Does DCIS with necrosis grow slowly? I read that if it has these dead cells, then it is of the more aggressive, rapid growing types. My husband went to the hospital for me today and found out that the date for my operation will be the 18th February, we are still going to try for cancellations. On the report it said I had Intraducal Carcinoma, is that the same as DCIS?. I think that I am going to have hookwire surgery - is that the actual treatment, or are they still investigating?
Thank you
Hi,
Once you have a copy of the reports, it would be best to seek consultation with another breast surgeon or oncologist.
As it is, you would have to wait 2 months for the surgery as advised by your surgeon.
It would only help to clear your doubts about your diagnosis, the management plan and the urgency for surgery.
DCIS does grow very slowly - but once the diagnosis has been made and the fact that surgery is required is known - why the 2 month wait?
A couple of weeks of waiting would be understandable, accounting for your surgeon being busy, but 2 months is a long time.
Do talk to your physician and see if could recommend another surgeon.
Hope this helps.
Do keep us posted.
Regards.
Hi,
I will get the notes this week and post you with them. I saw the doctor again and even though he told me the tumour was DCIS and was so tiny that it would take maybe even a year to grow, I still doubt that he truly knows until he actually operates - but he tried to assure me that his hands are the safest and everything is there that I will need. I agree I need more opinions and will endeavour to get them.
Thanks for all your help.
Hi,
You need to get a copy of all your reports - including the biopsy and scan reports.
If your doctor is asking you to wait for 2 months before the surgery, then the chances are that he/she is sure that the cancer will not spread.
Without the exact reports it is not possible to comment on how fast could this grow, about whether they would spread etc.
Like i said in my previous post - if you are not convinced with your doctor or the hospital; collect all your reports and get a second opinion. It is important that you are fully convinced and satisfied with what is being done to your body and why.
DCIS - ductal carcinoma in situ.
Do let us know your reports if possible.
Do get back to us if you have any more doubts.
Good luck.
Hi Dr. Further to my last post, I need to understand what is going happen to me - the situation is this - I was told I have a tiny tumor in my duct, the doctor is going to remove it with a hook and maybe my lymph nodes, and surrounding areas, then I will have some radiation. He proposed to do this in 2 months time - will the tumor have grown dangerously by then. What is the hook procedure called? Is this DCIS? How quickly do these lumps grow? how are they staged? is this a life threatening cancer?. So far everything has gone wrong at this hospital and everything is so vague
Thanks again.
Hi,
I suggest you ask your doctor about why was there a miscommunication by his/ her secretary. Next, ask him for a copy od all your biopsy and scan reports.
I would think it advisable to take a second consult if that is an option. See a breast specialist and explain your case to him/her.
If not, then take another appointment with your doctor, ask him/her about the type and possibility of the cancer spreading.
From what you say, and from the doctor's decision to operate a couple of months later, i am guessing the cancer is not aggressive.
But you still need to be sure about that.
Dont worry, just keep hope and things will fall into place, eventually.
Do let us know about your health and your progress.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
