Lymph node

I recently had an ultrasound and mammogram for a sensation I have been experiencing for the last six months in my right axillary region.  I work out alot running and on the eliptical machine and carrying around my laptop and my 35 pound preschooler from time to time, causing repetitive movement. That is why the u/s and mammogram were done. I have never been able to feel anything in this area - again its just a discomfort (almost) or a sensation. Nothing appeared on the u/s but my first mammogram showed a lymph where the sensation is -- also after a massage the RMT noticed how tight my pec muscles were.  Could the lymp be rubbing on the muscle in some way causing friction.  The mammogram showed "what looks like a lymph is seen in the RAR"  "No evidence of dominant mass, architectural distortion or malignant calcification is noted"  "No other abnormality is detected"  I met with a surgeon who said its fine - go on with your life. Its hard to do that for me as I feel this sensation is not normal.  Help!?!?

Dear gaze070:  There are many possible explanations for “discomfort” or odd sensations in the breast area.  The most common is related to the menstrual cycle, when breast tissue can swell and become painful.  As you work out regularly, this could also be a pulled muscle that continually gets aggravated due to not being able to heal.  Even indigestion can cause vague breast discomfort.  As there is no abnormality on mammogram, ultrasound or clinical breast examination and the surgeon feels that there is no reason to be concerned about breast cancer at this time, you might want to consider other possible explanations for this sensation.  Most breast cancer is not painful.  If you remain concerned, you could seek a second opinion or consider a visit to your primary care physician.

I also wanted to add -- I am 34 years old.  Have a nearly three year old and breastfed him for 14 months.  I recently miscarried as well @ 9 weeks - fetus stopped growing at 5 weeks. The mammogram was done after the miscarriage (Jan 08).  The u/s before the pregnancy (Oct 07)
