Hi, hope you are doing ok. No, I didnt have a reconstruction, I wanted to stay CHECKABLE in my mind, so that I felt there was nothing obstructing any future mammograms, also the appearance doesnt worry me - I look at it and think - thank god its gone!! its a reminder how lucky I was to have caught the problem so early and to have had it taken away from me!
I will be thinking of you on Friday.
Good luck
Hazel
Thanks for the information. Everything helps at this point especially knowing that you're not alone. Once you had the mastectomy, did you have reconstructive surgery too? If you did, was it at the same time as the mastectomy or later.
Thanks again for your reply.
Hi I had DCIS Grade 3 with necrosis 5mm, with 1 mm of microinvasion. In February I had the lumpectomy, they thought that it was possible there had been more invasion, but there wasnt, but we only found that out after I had my mastectomy - which I demanded. I just wish I had had the mastectomy first. They found the problem in November and I was operated on as I say in February, so in those three months invasion had started, so I would always say SOONER much rather than Later. My doctor thought it would take a long time to grow and become a problem - I didnt believe it and because of my lack of belief - I pushed and pushed for my op and thank goodness I did. According to my doctors I now cured??? and I think I stand a better chance of being so (for now) than I would have had.
Hope this helps
Hazel
