Question

Yellow dischagering  from my left nipple for almost 5 months now.  It itches and crust up if not leeking.  I clean it like crazy and I try to ask doctors but they look at me like I am crazy.  I was not sure where else to go to see if anyone new what this was?  I haven't breastfeed in over 4 years and I have no clue what else could have made this come on.  I haven't even had sex in about a year.  If anyone knows please let me know.

Dear Buto, Many women have some type of nipple discharge or fluid when their breasts are squeezed, and its normal. Squeezing the nipple sends message to the brain and the pituitary gland responds by increasing prolactin levels, which in turn produces discharge from the nipple.  The discharge can come in a variety of colors - gray, green and brown as well as white.  Some women are more prone to more discharge including women on; birth control pills, certain blood pressure medications or on major tranquilizers.  These medications increase prolactin levels in the body.   There is also certain life periods when a person is more likely to get discharge than others: there may be more discharge at puberty and at menopause than the years in-between.

The time to worry about nipple discharge is when it’s spontaneous (comes out by itself without squeezing), keeps on happening, and is only on one side.  If it is clear and sticky, like an egg white, or bloody.  Over the internet without ability to examine and ask questions it is difficult to advise more specifically.  You may want to try again with discussing this with your doctor.

It comes out by its self I dont mess with it do to the pain of it.  I have even gone with out wearing underwear just so there is nothing squeezing it.  Every doctor I go to has blown it off even though I tell them all of this.  One even said I was going to have a baby though the test said no and I haven't had sex in a year.  I dont take any meds due to bacd head aches which I had all my life so not apart of this. If I put a tisue over it the tisue turns hard as a rock from the discharge.
