Red and painful breast

Hi.  I'm 42 and not breastfeeding.  Months ago I had a little red itchy patch on my aereola.  Drives me crazy with itching.  Then early in the week I developed flu-like symptoms chills, body aches, no fever (I never get one), just general achiness all over.  A couple days later my breast became sore, swollen hot and red.  No inverted nipple, no dimples or orange peel look, or itchiness (other than the original spot).  Does this resemble Mestitis or IBC? Thank you.

Thanks, i've been on anitbiotics for 1 day and it's pretty much gone.  I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow but i'm almost sure it's not IBC.  Thanks very much for the advice.

There is a type of cancer of the breast called Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  It is very aggressive.  Make sure that you get this checked out.  I had mastitis and had a very high fever with it.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear loveof creed68, The skin on the breast is like skin on the rest of the body and susceptible to a variety of irritations and conditions.  Over the internet without ability to evaluate further including physical examination it is imposible to say for sure what this is.  It is best to have it checked by a health care professional who can assess in context for you.
