Tamoxifen

I had a mastectomy almost 5 years ago.  No cancer cells found in my lymph nodes, no chemo, no radiation.  Now after almost 5 years the doctor wants to put me on Tamoxifen.  What could be the reasoning?  I know there is a chart to determine high cancer risk, is there somewhere I can find that?

I have read that Tamoxifen does no good after 5 years bu the side effects increase. Having said that my mother took it for 10 years, is fine and has no recurrence or obvious side effects

I had a mastectomy and a spread to four lymph nodes 6 years ago.
I have been on Tamoxifen for almost 6 years.  I want to stop taking Tamoxifen, but my doctor wants to keep me on it for the rest of my life. The long term use of Tamoxifen scares me. What would happen

if I just stopped taking the drug on my own.

Thank-You
