Painfull Breast lump

My mom has been asked to go back for more pictures and a ultrasound ,,all I got from the nurse was they want to look more closely to the left breast with this info I did a breast exam on my mom (75 yrs old) and I can feel under her left breat a lump and it hurts her when I push gently into it.....Its to late to tell me not to worry (thats allready happen) My question is breast cancer lumps usually pain full ,,,she is having no other symtoms and the one place is the only place she feels pain,,,,even she was unaware of the pain untill I pushed on the lump and I did not apply alot of presure.  No nipple discharge (that she aware of ).........Her appoinments are not untill next week but it feels like forever.  I did find it strange that the x-ray dept contact us 3 days after her mammagram this was quick and the booked her appoinment 1 week later for the follow up pictures.....I f you knew my town you would understand this city takes forever to get medical care.

Hi,

Do you have a copy of your mamogram report?

Yes breast cancer lumps are usually not painful. It could also be a breast abscess, or secondary infection in a breast cyst etc.

Do ask for a copy of the mammogram and ultrasound reports.

In case the pain is too much, she could take some OTC pain relief medications and try some breast massage, warm compresses and breast exercises.

The early appointments need not be a cause of concern, as these could be due to the age of your mother or that other appointments might have got rescheduled.

Do let us know about the reports and about how your mother is doing.
Hope this helps.
Good luck and best wishes.

Hi,

What did the mammogram say?

The answer to your question is that most breast cancers do not present with pain. However, this is not true in every case.If the pain persists or progresses in one breast with associated change in skin appearance, nipple discharge or retraction, discoloration of skin and palpable mass in other parts of the body such as the arm pits then further evaluation is necessary.

Keep imaging records/results of your mom for further reference.I hope this information helps.Keep in touch.
