Biospy findings

I have been reading this website, can you explain some of the biopsy results you list.  I'm having a biopsy in the morning for calcifications in my left breast.  I'm very nervous and confused.  Can breast calcification that end up being maglient be the type of cancer that can spead to other areas of your body?  Also the surgeon told me these showed up on a mamogram 2 years ago, but I was always informed the my results were normal.

Dear bumble Bea:  Microcalcifications are small calcium deposits found within the breast tissue. There are different types of microcalcifications, and based on their pattern on the mammogram it gives the radiologist clues as to their cause. For instance microcalcifications that are more scattered are probably due to a benign (non-cancerous) cause, a

I had a needle core biopsy done in my right breast on July 11. Result came back on Monday July 16 as Focal fibroadenomatous hyperplasia with associated florid usual duct hyperplasia. A rare intraductal microcalcification is present No malignancy is identified in multiple tissue levels. Dr said everything is fine have another mamo in January. The doctors nurse called me today to say that the radiologist and the Dr. want to remove this lump come in on Wednesday to discuss. What could have caused this change to remove this now? Is this cancer? I have a lot of questions and I am really worried. Can you tell me why they would want to remove it now? Thank you for your time.

Hi, if you want an answer to your questions regarding your biopsy and ? further surgery you will have to post as a question and not as a comment. The professionals who answer on behalf of the Cleveland Clinic DO NOT read any of the comments. Keep trying until you are able to post as a "Question".

The only way to know for sure what the lump is, is to have it biopsied. Go for the  biopsy it will give you better peace of mind. I wish you well.

Well, I'm new here. A week ago I had no clue as to what a BI-RAD was. Now my life is consumed with mine.... I went for my screening mammogram on the 17th. The mammo tech called me the next AM & said the Dr needed mag views & U/S due to calcifications in my right breast. The mammo report read "Mag views show that there are in fact numerous microcalcifications that are tightly clustered-numbering 20 to 30, with the larger forms demonstrating significant pleomorphism. There is a subtle nodular density associated with this finding".  My BI-RAD category: 5.
In addition, the ultrasound report read "A poorly circumscribed hypoechoic nodule....measures 6mm in greatest diameter; mild acoustic shadowing is noted." The differential diagnosis includes malignancy and hyalinizing fibroadenoma (meaning it could be either one!)
I'm 53 years old. I meet with the surgeon 8/1 for consultation & scheduling of biopsy. I have spent numerous hours on the internet researching the meaning of every word in the reports, but nothing matches the much needed comfort & info I have picked up on by reading this forum. Many of you wonderful women have been out there giving comfort and support for a LONG time. Thank you. I know my odds. I also know I will be reading this forum every chance I get.

Hopefully all will be benign. You are doing the right thing in researching every detail. Knowledge is powerful and it will be your healer if it is cancer. Sorry you had to come to this site but welcome.

Hello to both of you! I apologize for using a posting slot as a way to catch up with both of you but it has been a while and I wanted to check in with my "medhelp" buddies. I hope all is well with you. Boninclyde, did you decide to have the reconstruction surgery? If I remember correctly, you and I are coming up on our one year anniversaries, right?  Montana girl, when are you scheduled for your next follow-up? About this time last year, my head was swimming with all kinds of uncertainties. This site, espeically both of you, helped me to keep things in perspective and to hold onto to the good possibilities. I think you for that from the bottom of my heart. Like I said, I hope this post finds you both well! You remain in my prayers. Ziggy123

ziggy - October is my next follow-up but I don't have it scheduled yet. I assume yours is also in October? I'm enjoying my summer so much. In 2 weeks I'll be back to school setting up my room.

boninclyde - You know I'm here to listen, so feel free to vent. I miss the conversations we used to have. I didn't see you post for awhile so I hoped you were spending lots of days at the beach with your girls.

I guess your thinking that my pity parties sure do last a long time. I should have realized it was that time but taking this tamoxifen I never know what time it is. I had some severe stomach and back pain/burning going on. I almost went to the emergency room. Wonder whats up with that, if it could be from the ovarian cyst? Sorry have have not replied sooner. You girls should know me by now (that I'm slow). But I know you'll forgive me. Ha! It has been so busy around here and getting ready to get busier. School. Celabrated 2 birthdays lately ( one 17 and one 6). I have been trying to find someone here in Charlotte to do a sorta new breast reconstruction surgery using implants and alladerm or there is also another one step surgery and I can't find anyone around here to do it. I can't believe a big city such as this and no one doing this type of surgery yet. But then again the doctors here would not get paid for 3/4 surgeries. So I got really depressed. I was so looking forward to having something done around September. There are a couple of doctors in Charleston, Durham and Hickory that do the procedure but then that means traveling, hotels and no one to watch the kids again. Looks like I will now be trying to figure out what surgery to have first reconstruction or hysterectomy. Here I go getting depressed again. Well I am moving on to make phone calls and pay bills (talking about getting depressed). Thanks girls for letting me vent, disappear and return again. Nothing like a great support group.

Could your severe stomach/back pain be caused by your gallbladder? Maybe you could do a search on gallstones and see if your symtoms match.

It sounds like you've really researched breast reconstruction. I've never even heard of the one-step. Sorry to hear you still need the hysterectomy, too. I'll bet you're wondering when this surgery/treatment business is going to end!   It's hard to have to deal with this, not once, or twice, but over and over. Hang in there.

I believe most phyllodes tumors are benign. But, they do need to remove a large area of your breast, unfortunately. Are you frightened of the surgery, or that it may be cancer? I will keep you in my prayers.
