fibroid adenoma

Had my first mammogram yesterday (at age 38) after a week of pain and burning in my left breast everytime I rolled over in the middle of the night.  Needless to say, I haven't had a good night's sleep in 2 weeks, now.

They had me come back for a breast ultrasound today.  The radiologist said it may be a "fibroid adenoma",  the image is subtle, give it a month or two and come back to have another ultrasound.  Another option, he said, was to have a breast MRI.  He's contacting my GP to leave it up to him.

Will a breast MRI give me and my doctor the information necessary to determine what I'm dealing with here?  Or is a breast biopsy, to determine whether this is benign or malignant, the most exact method available?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

What is your age?

Fibroadenomas are benign breast lesions that are usually managed conservatively or non surgically. They are followed up with regular breast self examinations, periodic clinical breast examinations, and repeat mammogram at 1 year.

Fibroadenomas are known to increase in size and tenderness in relation to the menstrual cycles due to hormonal changes.

These usually regress at menopause. They are surgically removed only if they are very large and causing pressure symptoms or pain.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Would somebody out there please advise me as I've developed a lump on my left breast directly under my nipple and its very painful.  I've been to the doctors and was told it was a fibrois adenoma and the altra sound did not show any abnormal axillary adenopathy.  I've been told to come back for the biopsy in three to six time and i don't think i will survive the pain until then.  Has anyone have an idea about this fibroid adenoma thing and does it lead to cancer ....please help!

A  breast biopsy is the ONLY sure way to know if a lump is benign or not. I say follow your gut and get it tested. Do you really want to wait a month or two to see if it changes? Find a breast specialist and get it checked out. Blessings- Laura
