Mammogram after mastectomy

Hi, I havent yet had my physical check ups after mastectomy and am due a mammogram next month for my left breast but am curious as to how they would check the right side mastectomy area, would they examine the area with ultrasound only?

Hi Jadpip, thanks for your reply, I hope;you are doing well.  Its early November when my year is up for the mammogram but I am seeing the surgeon/doctor in a couple of weeks time and wanted to get all my questions together beforehand so I know what I need to give me my peace of mind.  How do they test for recurrences though on the sides of mastectomy? would that show in the blood tests?

Since my mastectomy I have only had mammography on the remaining breast. Your mammograms will be ordered by either your Surgeon or Oncologist and he/she will order whatever is usual practice for them. There really isn't any breast tissue remaining to be tested on the operative side. Has it been a year since your last mammogram ?? They are usually not done any more frequently unless there was a problem that needed a re-check in 3-6 months.
