P.E.T. scan tomorrow

Hello -
this is my first post on this forum.  I was hoping that I wouldn't need it. -:(  Nothing against ya'll.

8 yrs ago I was diagnosed with DCIS, non-invasive on the Left side.  My oncologist recommended a Modified Radical Masectomy, which I did, w/o gettiing a 2nd opinion.  Oh well.  It's done. He said nothiing was found in the nodes and no treatment was necessary.

Now, after 8yrs, NO testing on that side when having a R. mammo., my current Dr. ordered an MRI/nuclear med. mammo so that both sides could be done.  A node was seen "between" the areas and tomorrow I am having a PET scan, ordered "rush" by my Dr.

Has anyone ever had one?  How reliable are they?  Just what do they show?  Is it for only if cancer is suspected?  This thing has got me bummed, I'm sorry to say.

I'm sorry, I guess I just need to "vent" and of course my hubby really doesn't understand tho' I'll admit he is trying. -:)

Thanks for letting me spout.

My Doctor called a few minutes ago ---  ALL CLEAR!!!! -:))  Thank you LORD!!!

What with the Liver problem, I sure wasn't wanting anything else (not that I would "want it" anyway (??) )

Sure hope you get some good news soon, too.  The not knowing is the worst, no matter how hard we try.

Keep the faith and I'll keep you in my prayers.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2Tim.1:7

Whatever we find out we can use it for His good.  ie: If I had not been dx recently with the liver problem I would never have been on this (and another) board.  I have "met" some awesome people, many of them Christians.

Thanks for your prayers.  Was hoping to hear today, but.... Patience is not one of my virtues at times. -:)   Trust me, I say that verse quite often. -:))

Sorry yours was inconclusive. Not much help, huh.  Let me know how it went today and I will have you in my prayers, as well.

Geri,
My u/s came back inconclusive so I will be having a discussion with my oncologist tomorrow about a possible biopsy.
After a couple of sleepless nights, I finally gave my fear over to God.  I can't speak of having faith and then not trusting God with my future. Cancer and the fear of cancer can not rule my life.
I am still praying about your PET results.  God bless.  S.

Bummer about the films, but sounds like you got a good hubby -:)  I'm also hoping for Friday but not really holding out for it.  Probably Monday. My Primary Care Dr.  is super good about calling me HERSELF and letting me know what's going on.  Will touch base w/you as soon as I know anything.

My GI Dr. told me yesterday that my liver problem is not all Autoimmune Hepatitis (non-viral, non-contagious) but a "rare" crossover with Primary Biliary Cirrohsis and that the fibrosis to the liver is at about 70%. -:(.  The good part is that hopefully we have caught it in time because the liver will regenerate/repair itself with proper meds. and time.      I'm sorry, I know this is probably all greek to you and that's ok.  It's just that that is why I'm on the Prednisone (40mg) and he's getting ready to put me on Azathioprine if my blood work warrants it, so he can start bringing the Pred. down.

Seems the good Lord is having a bit more confidence in me than I am.  I know He said He won't give us any more than we can handle, but....... -:)

Sure hope we both get negs.

Thanks for the thoughts.  Went to the ultrasound appt and the MRI clinic didn't send the films!  The consult report they sent was pretty generic so my radiologist had to reschedule me for Friday.  My husband, God bless him, went and got my films and the actual report so I'll get to see them before the radiologist. I am praying for a definitive answer on Friday.  I see my oncologist for a scheduled checkup on Monday so the timing would be great.

Sorry to hear you're on Predisonne.  I was on it for a nerve problem and begged them to take me off it because it made me feel so weird.  They switched me to shots in the nerve and I was much happier!

Let me know how your PET turns out.  God Bless.

Thanks for answering.  I'm hoping for a negative, of course.  The Dr. told me that what they saw, the node, was "larger than what it should be".  (?)  The one thing going is that I am happy with the medical facilitiy that I'm now using.  We moved 3 months ago and the facilities where we were and the ones here - there is no comparison.   They let no grass grow under their feet, so to speak.  Awesome!!

I don't know  why I didn't look PET up sooner.  Probably 'cause it didn;t really bother me until just the last couple of days.(?)  I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with Autoimmune Hepatitis, stage 3 liver fibrosis and I'm now on Prednisone so maybe I'm just feeling sorry for myself ????

Good luck with yours, please stay in touch.  I know how distressing those calls can be. -:(  After my MR, I told everyone that If I had it to do over I would have done both at the same time.  Less chance of recurrance. (so they say) Besides, then you can "any sz you want" LOL

Thanks again and I covet your prayers

Just had an MRI last week for my remaining breast and also got a callback for an ultrasound appt today and possible biopsy.  I've been reading up on MRI and "false positives".  Hopefully both of us have one.  Never had the PET scan though so I don't know much.
I am big on researching anything new that gets thrown at me.  Check out the medical databases at your local college/university library.  Better information and more reliable than the internet.  Most university libraries will allow guests to access databases for free or a nominal fee.
This research allows me to ask pretty good questions of my doctors and understand her/his anwers better.
I'm praying for you.
